A gritty tale that wrenched me close against my own will.

This is my first Joe Hill novel, and I was quite impressed. As a matter of fact, I have already started my next one, which is equally dark and twisted.

I have never finished a book where I did not like the main character—until now. In all blunt honesty, I did not care for Jude. I found him to be off-putting and full of himself, but the story was so creepy it kept me carrying on.

This is the story of Jude, an aging rockstar who seems to be as disgusted with the world as he is himself. He is a man driven by shock value, collecting oddities, and bedding women far too young for him.

On a whim, he purchases a ghost for sale online, funny right? What he does not know is that the ghost is tied to one of his less savory mistakes in life and has vowed to put an end to Jude and anyone who helps him.

So right, it has you too—great.

This story drags you through hell and doesn’t let go until the very last few pages. The shifts in the novel between story, dream, and hallucination are executed beautifully. At times I was not sure which end was up, and it was a blast.

I listened to this over audiobook and had a very hard time stepping away. It wasn’t exactly holiday reading, but it certainly did make the house-cleaning chores fly by.

There is a fair amount of gore and violence, so be ready.

I hope you enjoy it!
