Layers and layers of madness.

The Quarry Girls By Jess Lourey

The Quarry Girls is a fast-moving novel that is easy to pick up and put down without having to fight your way back into the story.

It opens exploring the turbulent life of teenage girls and all the ugly experiences they ignore or accept about their lives that rightfully horrifies any responsible adult paying attention.

The book is filled with rich and colorful characters, a few so tragic your heart bleeds for them, knowing they are stuck in cycles that are complex and often impossible to break.

The twists and turns keep you flipping pages while the story spirals down in a controlled descent into lunacy, like the whole town has lost its morality. The truth in a few of the darker twists left me feeling like I needed a shower, or a long stare at some fluffy puppies. (Good thing I have a few foster poodles to scratch.)

So much of this story explores what happens when unchecked power and entitlement are allowed to blossom in the hearts of wicked men. But even in the grimy film left in their wake, there is a spark of hope.

I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from Jess Lourey. Hope you enjoy it too.
